Onionshare

Onionshare Tor is a useful program for secure and anonymous communication with other people. There is a GUI and CLI for this program. Read the documentation for more information.

Tor

Onionshare uses the tor network. You can set various options regarding this in the program including using a bridge if tor is censored in your country and to auto-connect to the network.

Options

After connecting, you are presented with four options. You can share files, receive files, host a website and chat anonymously.

When sharing files, select the files or folders you wish to share. The person you are sharing with does not need to download onionshare. You can select to stop sharing after it has been downloaded, always open the tab when the program starts or run as a public service (disabling the private key). Other options include a custom title and setting start and stop scheduled time for when the onion service should be running. When you are done sharing, shut it down.

Receive files lets people upload files to your computer. Be careful with this. You can set location to save to, disable submitting text or uploading files, use notification webhook, always open tab when you start onionshare, set as public service disabling private key, custom title and scheduled start and stop times.

Third option is to host a website. Select relevant files. You can set various options. To not send default content security policy header, send a custom content security policy header, always open tab when you start onionshare, set as public service disabling private key, custom title and scheduled start and stop times.

The fourth option is to chat anonymously. You can set to always open tab when you start onionshare, set as public service disabling private key, custom title and scheduled start and stop times.

Conclusion

Onionshare is a useful program I have used a good number of times but make sure to be careful when using it and be careful with sharing large files on onionshare.
